About Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a condition that causes bones to become fragile and brittle, so that even a minor bump or fall can cause a serious fracture. It is often called 'the silent disease' as there may be no signs or symptoms before a fracture. It is more likely in women, and can affect any bone. The most common are hip, spine, wrist, ribs, pelvis and upper arm.

Osteoporotic fracture can lead to chronic pain, disability, loss of independence and even premature death. Common causes of osteoporosis are heredity, hormones and diet.

This Speaking From Experience DVD offers first-hand accounts from eight people living with osteoporosis. They discuss the impact it has had on their lives and the ways they manage the condition.

"If you get an understanding of what's going on with your condition, then you become more confident and more able to manage your own condition." - Annie, Diagnosed with Osteoporosis 8 years ago.
