About Cystic Fibrosis - Newly Diagnosed

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is the most common, life threatening genetic disorder in Caucasians. CF causes the body to produce abnormally thick and sticky mucus in several different parts of the body, most prominently in the lungs and other parts of the respiratory system. It also affects the pancreas, leading to serious digestive problems. Despite advances in diagnosis and treatment, there is no cure.

Diagnosis is a particularly stressful, uncertain and confusing time for the families of babies born with CF. This 'Speaking From Experience' offers first hand accounts from parents, grandparents, children with CF and siblings about their experience of diagnosis and the impact CF has had on their lives. "One piece of advice is don?t drag out the old Encyclopaedia Britannica because it will be a very sad story in there. The news is a lot more positive when you listen to the doctors. You should remain positive, because there are great developments happening." MELISSA
